Great video game deals and sales - on now

I would hope people here know about the Humble Bundle, but if you don't I thought I would post about their latest offer. You can get Dead Space, Dead Space 3, Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box, Crysis 2 Ultimate Edition, Mirror's Edge, Medal of Honour, Battlefield 3 and The Sims 3 + Starter pack for about $5 (Not each, in total!) without actually giving EA any money!

I realise this sounds like some dodgy ad, but hopefully others can assure you of the awesomeness of the Humble Bundle!

wow, that's a terrific deal... I just went and bought one.

I know that EA and Origin get a lot of bad press, but respect to them for supporting charity in this case.

So far, they've earned US$ 3.5 million for good causes from this bundle.

Yeah, I got this instantly the moment I saw it (about 3 minutes after it first went online yesterday). It's a rather insane deal, and well worth it.

I also grabbed it up. A few of the games I already had on Steam so i tossed the codes at a friend who did not. The rest I'll link on my origin account when I have time. A really great steal for a great cause. :)

I wouldn't be surprised if we see GoaT added to some of the humble bundles down the road. Great way to get a bit more revenue and awesome for exposure and press. :)

That bundle is just crazy! The soundtrack of Bastion and FTL alone are worth that price! Hell, I paid more than the average for the soundtrack of FTL and it was totally worth it. Then look at the games!!! If you haven't already gotten most of them, seriously give that bundle a try.

I guess I will have to get it (I am only reluctant as I already own a few of them), but I have recently been feeling that I already have too many games to play. :P

Pretty awesome bundle. I already have more than half of that lineup so I will likely just passfor now. But it is well worth it for anyone that has not checked out those games. Lot of hidden gems!

Anyone on the fence, they added a few goodies to this pack including the Mortal Kombat Arcade collection and guardians of middle earth (along with I think some DLC type stuff for games in the pack).

Figured I'd promote a few Kickstarters I got money in that are still ongoing.

Obduction - http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cyaninc/obduction

From the developers that originally created the Myst series, they're back and looking to make a beautiful (unreal 4 engine) fully open world puzzle adventure to topple the genre and blow it wide open. I had to back it, if all else for the fact it has the potential to become part of gaming history (as their originals were). The game is funded so now it's just cheddar for added game play content.

Bloom - http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/137 ... enture-rpg

Image

This is about a little over half funded and has 26 days left on the clock. I absolutely love the art style and creativity on this one, though I am iffy on what they're talking about with game mechanics. Still, I'm excited to see the final product when it hits.

Astral Terra- http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/tet ... antasy-rpg

Image

Touted as a "smooth voxel fantasy sandbox rpg". It to me looks like fusing Morrowind with Minecraft in a way, and could be really awesome if they imagine it thoroughly enough. It has some nice visuals (though slightly dated now, it's far from the pixel block of minecraft) but a lush magical look to the surroundings. Still brand new and has 31 days left, but a long way to reaching their goal.

Please note I am not being asked to promote these, nor do I get any kickbacks for it. I just figured you guys might also be interested in these upcoming projects. :)

They also added the first F.E.A.R. which I was quite happy to hear. I don't like starting partway through a franchise.

@EvilKing... I think you are right, Obduction really could be something quite special.

Good news! The STEAM AUTUMN SALE is on from now until 3 December. Right now I'm seeing decent prices on titles like 'The Walking Dead', 'Sleeping Dogs' and 'Skyrim',

I love Steam sales.

EDIT. I bought 'Skyrim' yesterday and 'Dishonored' today... yay!
ANOTHER EDIT. and now I just bought 'Borderlands 2'
A THIRD EDIT. I just bought 'Far Cry 3'

If yu got the slightest interest in coop and mp games you shouldn't pass up this deal: https://www.humblebundle.com/

Included are Natural Selectiion 2, Magicka (+2 DLC's), Orcs Must Die 2 (+DLC's), Serious Sam 3, Sanctum 2 and Garry's Mod!!! Plus Soundtracks!

They are ALL great games, especially in multiplayer, but I can't refrain too give Natural Selection 2 a special mention.
You should really give Natural Selection 2 a spin! It is still my favorite online game, I've sunk 500h into it over the last two years! Feel free to join me on Thursday or Sunday nights, I'm playing with a very entertaining group of RPS-readers. This is our steam group (http://steamcommunity.com/groups/rpskulk?l), this is our server (http://ns2stats.com/server/server/6728). It's a great place to learn the game, get familiar with the basics and have a boatload of fun!

@Kwisatz Nice one! I'm really tempted by this offer but, because I'm based in Asia these days, the server distance lag is just too much... I'd just be cannon fodder :D

Already have a few of those games, not interested in what I don't have. Is a decent pack though.

Currently feeling wallet fatigue from the holidays. Building my wife a new pc for gaming. Modest one but should allow her to play down in the livingroom where my pc is so we can play online together and talk across the room. :) we used to do that a lot so I miss it.

I do like seeing all these great deals pop up though. I got the Steam sale Skyrim ultimate edition for her as well, so she'll be psyched to play that. She has been playing the Elder Scrolls beta online with me and liked it a lot, so now she wants to try Skyrim. hehehe.

The trick is to find someone that is a gamer (even if it's casual) before they get to know you. If you meet someone who is not much of a gamer and try to make them into one, it usually doesn't work. But if they already have an interest and knowledge in it, they can use that a a way to enrich and grow their understanding of it and at the same time nurture and grow you both as a couple.

Most of my ex's were gamers, and my wife was a long time gamer before I met her. Granted it was The Sims, Civilisation and other similar games, but she enjoyed them. Nowadays she's into those, plus action games (she played and finished all three Fable games, loved Burnout Revenge and Saints Row 3) and is currently playing Path of Exile and starting Skyrim.

She is guaranteed to play GOAT when it hits, my copy or her own personal copy if necessary. :)

Hooray, the STEAM HOLIDAY SALE is on right now.. Dec 19 to Jan 3 !

Didn't we just have the Steam Autumn Sale?

It doesn't matter... Steam sales are great!

@EvilKing... I know what you are saying, it is nice to share this kind of thing with a partner. Saints Row 3 was (utterly insensitive) gangsta fun, I really enjoyed it. Any game that has a minigame called "Professor Genki's Super Ethical Reality Climax" with the catchphrase "Murder Time! Fun Time!" has to be worth a look :D

Image

EDIT. I just bought the whole Bioshock pack (1, 2 and Infinite) for US$15 :D

Oh my... that was quick!

Anyway, if you're even quicker you should get the Humble weekly Bundle! It is excellent!

That is if you are into the bizzareness and great humour of the guys over at ACE team. But I really enjoyed playing through Rock of Ages and the Zeno Clashs. Go get them, sale only lasts for another half hour!

There is also a holiday sale on the UPlay store... up to 75% off, and with daily deals.

I grabbed a few things off the Steam Holiday Sale, for myself and for a few people as gifts.

My wife got me a Steam $50 gift card so I applied that and grabbed :

The Walking Dead (plus the 400 Days DLC)
Divinity 2 Director's cut
LEGO Lord of The Rings
Afterfall InSanity Extended Edition
Blood of the Werewolf
And I got Back To The Future : The Game as a gift from a friend.
I also got Jack Orlando (some adventure game) from a friend over with Phoenix Online Games. :)

Right now The Wolf Among Us is free on Xbox 360 if anyone is interested in grabbing it. :)

Happy New Year everyone!!!

Oh nice collection of games there. The Walking Dead was probably the most intense and moving game I've ever played. The amount of player-character bonding is just insane!

Jack Orlando?! Isn't that way back from the 90's? I can remember reading the test of it in a gaming magazine (print!) back in 97 or something. Was around the time I got into computer games. It got four out of five stars :D

I started off the sale keeping to my resolution of not buying new games and "working" on my back log over the holidays. Then, after a few days I crumbled and got:

Call of Juarez: Gunslinger
Insurgency
Kentucky Route Zero

And one of my favorite games this year:
Don't Starve

@Evilking and Kwisatz... damn you guys, I have played exactly none of those games. "Walking Dead" is just too intense for me, I can't even watch horror on tv

I just bought Indie Humble Bundle X, its packed with value:
  • To The Moon
    Strike Suit Zero
    Joe Danger 2: The Movie
    Surgeon Simulator
Runner2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien
    Papa and Yo
    Toki Toki
    Hoard
    Reus
Along with soundtracks for every game... the "To The Moon' score is beautiful.

Its a great deal!

Newegg.com is runnin a 72 hour sale on certain pc digital download based games. A lot of different games, though I had most of them already. But quite a few of the newer ubisoft titles.

use this promo code during the sale to take an extra 15% off EMCPDHF89

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLi ... ME-_-LEB0B

I grabbed the 2 newer xcom games for about $12 total. :)

@EvilKing... newegg is great! but I seem to already have all the games I want on sale there at the moment.

ey, I just bought Goat Simulator for USD 5.99 at the Steam sale... the genius of the concept wows me... I've wanted this since it came out! :D

Image

Also, the excellent Dishonored is on sale today for USD 4.99. Splinter Cell Blacklist -my favorite game ever- was on sale yesterday for around USD 7.00... I bought World of Goo (made by just two guys) a few days ago for USD 0.99... I'll probably never have time to play it but when I played the demo a few years ago it was funny and so smart.

@EvilKing... just in case you haven't seen it, I spotted Dungeon Keeper 2 on sale over the last few days on GOG for USD 2.99.

@David, I recommend playing World of Goo as soon as possible. It's quite fun, but also manages to create a profound emotional connection in a way few other games I've played have. It has very deep messages about consumerism, corporate corruption, and hope in the face of disaster, and pulls it off in both a poignant and funny way. Game Observer has a great article on the themes of World of Goo (spoiler heavy, so don't read before playing):

<<<< Note from David: apologies, it looks like gameobserver.com was temporarily hacked... so I removed Jeremiah's link in case of malware. I contacted their site admin and will put the link back up as soon as we get the all-clear. Thanks for your patience! >>>>

I also mentioned the soundtrack in "The finest game soundtracks... ever!" The ending had me nearly in tears, partly thanks to this amazing tune:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aHId6LIPVd4

A couple other highlights: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sw49yQbo1ps , https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08tXStvIygY

Their previous game, Little Inferno, managed to create the same emotional connection, and it's rather baffling in a game where all you do is burn things. Absolutely masterful game design, and the five hours it took me to play are one of my fondest gaming memories. A work of art. It looks to be on sale for $4.99 on Steam (well worth it).

@Jeremiah... thank you! Having just played the demo, I thought it was just a smart, funny puzzle game with nifty physics. I completely missed the deeper themes and emotions of World of Goo. You are almost certainly right about the soundtrack - from what I remember of the early bits, it did fit the game perfectly :D

I'll be sure to add World of Goo and Little Inferno, to the titles that I'll play & I'll wait to look at those articles and videos until after.

I hav e world of goo from a previous bundle I think, so I'll have to check that soon.

I grabbed The Walking Dead season 2 from todays sales, I was looking ot get it soon anyhow so 50% off was worth it. And I paid so little for the first season that between the two it's about the price of a price I'd pay for a good game. :) So yay for Telltale.

Haven't seen much else cheap enough to get me to pull the trigger and get more. there is always fall and the holiday sales. :)

@EvilKing... yes, it was slim pickings for me too in this sale. I just bought Goat Simulator and World of Goo, a lot of the other desirable games I already had. Its probably for the best anyway, my backlog is out of control thanks to various Humble Bundles, so I've got a whole raft of indie games awaiting.

by evilkinggumby
Yeah Beat hazard can be sensory overload. I turn the visual effects down quite a bit or it's impossible to see what the heck is going on. It also only goes totally nuts on harder difficulties and with certain songs (I've found some of the hardest were actually songs that have varying structures and go from soft to loud and who's pace speeds and slows regularly). So Great Big Sea (sort of irish drinkin music and folk stuff my wife loves) is brutal lol whereas doing say Slipknot is not all that bad because the brutality is consistent. hehehe.

[quote="david"]hey EvilKing, I'm buying Never Alone in the Steam holiday sale today!
YAY. hope you got a chance to play it. not very hard, not veyr long, but I truly enjoyed the heck out of it. :)

Also we might as well take the time to list any great deals and games folk bought this year during the holiday sales! :)

Here is my haul on steam and various other sites. :)

Gift (for xmas)
Dragon Age Inquisition Digital Deluxe Retail Box (PC)
Shadow Warrior (Special Edition) (steam code)

Bought:
Might & Magic: CLash of Heroes
Skyrim's Dragonborn DLC
Spore +Creepy Cute + Galactic Adventures
The Wolf Among Us
Poker Night 2
Resident Evil 4 HD
Resident Evil 5
Alan Wake CE
Bunch of cheap Tomb Raider dlc (for newest game)

I also grabbed Drakenguard 3 for ps3 and AkibaStrip for ps3 from Gamefly used (but practically new) too.

I will say Dragon Age Inquisition is so far kinda neat (only a hour or so into it I guess) but it is brutal on my computer. I am still tweaking settings to see if I can find a happy balance. Currently it looks great and mostly runs ok but I do see frame dips in spots (mostly during cut scenes, strangely). If I run it at "Ultra" it's be running around 15-30fps lol I am trying to find a sweet spot that is closer to 45-60fps . I will also say they optimised gameplay for a gamepad. I played using mouse/keyboard for the first 45 minutes and MAN is it clunky and the mouse pointer is too small so it gets lost easily on screen. playing through gamepad is just way more responsive and intuitive.

@EvilKing... that's a decent haul! I'm seeing good things about Dragon Age Inquisitions, so it will be cool to hear how you enjoy it. You have a nice rig, so I'm kind of surprised it's not running on Ultra.

I've been a bit frustrated, trying to buy Never Alone*, Shadow Warrior**, and Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes***... but because I'm traveling, my payments have been rejected b'cos I'm not physically in the same country as my billing address (or something). :?

*for the beauty, and it's indie of course
**for the kickass fun!
***I've never played this series do I've been eager to to compare it with Splinter Cell... as you know I love the Splinter Cell gameplay but detest the idiotic story and characters. Also, Metal Gear Solid is now being built with the new proprietary Fox engine, which seems to perform well and look really nice on console and PC.

One thing I have come across is that some cards are designed to block transactions from outside the normal country they operate under. Whenever I try and use my normal card to back on kickstarter, for example, and it's for a european dev and euro's, it fails the transaction.

As well some companies have software to block certain purchases from specific countries. Like Sony and their PSN japan are built to not accept purchases for some games and freebies if you are outside their region(east asia).

So it could be either fo those. might want to try checking with your bank first, see if they show the transaction hitting at all and what is blocking it. If they show no activity on the card/account, it may be that Steam is outright stopping it.
