New here, so If I say something stupid a slap on the wrist would be appreciated. Anyway, will there be some kind of character development element? I understand the story will be in-depth and will shape the gameplay, but perhaps the main character can mold to situations? I'm not sure if having a jack-of-all-trades character would be very immersive, personally. Perhaps how he adapts to different situations? I don't know, I'm kind of rambling right now.

First, Welcome to the forum! And don't worry we say stupid stufff and ramble a lot too, so no wrist slapping necessary (unless yer into that, and then you may want to get cozy with David..lol)

Nothing has been said, generally speaking, about the mouse character's personality or their development. I think what we do know is that Tilo is going to be pretty crafty, agile, and clever. Whereas you'll have tooption to grab and use some of the larger heavy weapons/armor dropped from enemies, it'll be cvumbersome and unrealistc. Really, I don't think Tilo will be much of a warrior (in the extreme "kick ass hero" trope way). Combat will be there, and it'll (hopefully) be interesting and fun, but really when you size mice against rats and other creatures, proportionately, it's really an uphill battle.

So it seems like you will have not quite the jack of all, but still a versatile one. This means the player has a shot at molding the character a bit by their own play style. If the levels and dungeons are created right, it may be possible to address and navigate almost every dangerous situation from a few different angles and so you can play as a stealth mouse, as a combat monster, as a trapster, as an item-mage(using magically enchanted wands/rings/gems or other items) or whatever.

I think the story itself will help develop a lot of the character just through the narrative and plot. Much like 'The Last of US", you won't be so much shaping and creating the main character into your avatar as much as joining him on a journey and seeing what happens. You'll still have the option to outfit, carry, and go where you like.. but personality wise, I am guessing it's all pre determined..

But hey I'm not the dev.. so I have no REAL idea. :)

I see what your saying, and It's great. The character responds to different situations with different methods. I've read about the inclusion of magic and the like as one method. I wonder what that will be like. Perhaps a Dark Souls-ey magic with a limited number of casts and enchanted items? Or if it will be a mana bar system like the health and stamina in the trailers? Hopefully it's not too overpowered so as to make other forms of progression kind of pointless.

@Vallug.. hey, welcome! As EvilKing says, we ramble and talk nonsense here a lot :D

As far as I understand Tilo (pronounced Tee-Low), will gain his abilities from his equipment, whether it is traps, musical instrument, equipment, magical items (maybe) and weapons (very maybe... there will be doing some key info about GOAT combat soon).

So the story is a given, but I believe - much like EvilKing suggests - you'll have flexibility in how you approach situations.

With regard to magic (and other items) I think the mouse will be (if anything) underpowered.

In a very real way, GOAT is the opposite of the 'adolescent power fantasy' that we've played so often (a tiny musician mouse is radically different to a supercharged wizard, killer robot, giant armored flying machine, hulking hero carrying a minigun, etc.). Powerful roles can be great fun too, but GOAT is VERY different

there is a story, a very rich and detailed one from what we've seen so far. There are areas that ae open to explore, but it is not on the island anymore and so it's not like you have 4 sq miles to explore freely. instead it is much more focused. :)

Is there anywhere I can get any info on what the basics of the story are? I have read some basics on tone and things like that but that's pretty much all I have found so far. I am as curious as a little mouse you might say.

Seith may be able to point you in a direction, but generally he has kept the story and most game details close to the vest so it is unspoiled.

oh i don't want anything to detailed those would be spoilers. Just imagine if this was reddit and spoilers got released. The internet police would go insane! haha just kind of a general Idea I know he's a mouse bard/minstrel and rats and crabs try to mess him up but that is pretty much it. maybe that's part of the magic though. THE MYSTERY! Maybe TILO doesn't even remember!

I think the closest you get is this one blog post from almost a full year ago (how time doth fly!!)

http://www.ghostofatale.com/large-update/

I don't think I've seen much more detailed explanation given for the game in it's current state,

Well in a sense it IS the mystery that makes a new game exciting, isn't it? The fact that you discover things along the way; we will purposefully not reveal some game mechanics beforehand so the player can discover them and put things together on his/her own.

I do hope this will help slowly pull players into the game's world, rather than keep them at arm's length. Guess we'll have to wait to find out... :)
