Ghost of a Tale is out on PC!!

Hey all! This is just a quick update to announce that Ghost of a Tale is finally out!!!

After five years of hard work now is the time to see if it was all worth it… 🙂

Here’s the release trailer:

So far the feedback is overwhelmingly great, with about 96% of positive reviews on Steam!

Speaking of reviews, we got our first official one! It’s on French site Gamekult and it’s an 8 out of 10! Let’s hope this marks the beginning of a good trend.

And now it’s back to listening to players’ feedback and fixing (hopefully few) bugs. Oh, and catching a little sleep too. 🙂

I’ll see you in the next update, as I leave you with one last screenshot taken by Nautilus (using the game’s photo mode)…

Hey Seith, congrats to the release! I’m really looking forward to playing it.
In anticipation I’m eager to listen to the OST – when and where can I get the soundtrack?

I’m with them. Obviously take your time to focus on fixing any game problems, but I do hope to see the soundtrack become available at some point in the near future.

Other than that, congrats on the launch, This game keeps finding new ways for me to repeat “This game is just so freaking charming” over and over again. Some minor things that I could see using an alteration or two (mainly fixing holes in geometry when seen at certain angles, and a complete lack of wind or rope sounds when in the basket from Silas), but for a first time effort with such a small team, way more professional looking than a great many other games, including AAA titles, well done.

Wow, it’s finally here. Congrats on the hard work over half a decade.
So glad it has arrived. Now to find the time to play through the entire game from the start, having already done so on the Alpha build about 10 times.
    Excited!

Probably missing something obvious, but where do early backers go to collect their codes?
Not gotten any info via mail and the indiegogo site has no links or download info of any kind.

What a magnificent game. I loooove playing the cardboard game “Mouse and mystics” and this gives me exactly that same vibe. Very well done!

A big GG for the team (and courage for the after-release).
I hope the game will sell well, and that the story can continue in another game ! (Ok, maybe too early to say it, but after some deserved rest you should really go for it !)

Seems like a very nice game. However, I am an older gamer not used to the modern ways and would like to ask, if there is planned any DLCs for this game. I would like to purchase it as a complete experience. I dont play games so much anymore, and I am a patient person. Should I wait?

I’ve followed the development of this game for three years. As an artist myself, I not only find the gameplay, graphics, hidden passages, and narrative to be incredibly compelling; I am incredibly encouraged and inspired by your passion for this project! Playing this game the last week has been so amazing, and I can’t help but stop and stare at vistas for peek around corridors with anxious excitement. The experience you’ve accomplished here is a perfect blend of Skyrim and Mouse Guard and Redwall, and it is exactly the kind of game I’ve been waiting for 🙂 Thank you so much for this work of art Sieth! Its been great following your journey.

Awesome game! I really liked pretty much everything in it, dialogs are godlike as much as humor.
Good that u made the game as hard as possible, without a markers on your head, that leads u to the solution, but pushing you to stop and think. Im talking about that quest with a shadow, that helps you find a chest, i realy stuck on that, but soon figured.

And big thanks, BIG thanks that u translated it to Russian as well. Its been a long time, whan i seen that kind of quality translation. Rhymes, jokes, sad moments… beautiful, only saw two misspelling word, one disoriented me, at quest with wilde singing general.

And when the story cutted off, it was a little disappointing, but i am here to wait for another part of the game, i hope u will raise enough money, and you will work on it.

    Cheers.

    Hi there,

Thank you for creating this game.
I bought this game some days ago and started playing it.

Graphics, character design (such a cute little mouse >.<), music, and storyline are really great!

    ONLY DEFECT:
I really enjoy it but I got troubles finding my way in the game. Even with the map I get lost in the corridors. I would recommend you to improve the map for the kind of players (like me) who are really sensible to the game poetry but can hardly remember which way they come from.
how about writing automatically the name of the locations on the map once you visited it?
It is really frustrating to know where you need to go (because you already explored it) but you just can't remember the directions to go there again.

I disagree. I think getting lost is actually one of Ghost of a Tale’s greatest strenghts! It speaks volumes about the size of the world and the complexity of the secret passages that wind below Duinlan Heights. Whenever I turn a corner and see a dead end, or a rat, or a location that isn’t where I was trying to go, I dont think “darn it I need a better map!”– I think “wait, wait, don’t tell me… I’ll solve it!”

Hey Seith! I’ve commented in the past, but I finished your game last night after logging 22 hours over a solid month. All I can say is thank you. This game combined so many of my favorite fantasy and animal elements in a perfect Redwall/Mouse Guard mix, but the LORE! My goodness. It’s seriously on a near Lord of the Rings level. I was so enraptured in the story, and the ancient history of the world. The character development was beautiful as well; by the halfway point I knew how characters would react to my actions and who to go to for help with different tasks. I also fell in love with the castle itself, as the layout is truly some of the best interwoven open world level design I have EVER seen.

The ending hit me hard. At first I was shocked that it was over, but it left me with such a sense of adventure and hope that I’m torn! On the one hand, I would LOVE for you to make a sequel to this game, no matter how many years it takes 🙂 This character is somebody I want to keep rooting for and helping in his quest. And at the same time, I feel there’s a certain charm in a story without a definitive ending. The events of Dwindling Heights are the true story of the game, and Tilo’s journey beyond is an altogether different story waiting to be told. But it’s a testament to your world building that I can recognize that, though I felt so extremely accomplished, I was still just a mouse in a world of fallen heroes and hidden catacombs. As you say, Tilo’s story is little more than the ghost of a tale 🙂

All that to say this: Thank you so much. I’ve followed this game’s development for three years. I’ve loved seeing your process, and let it inspire me as I entered college and began my own career as a children’s book illustrator. I will continue to enjoy your game for years to come, as I intend to replay it again and again. And lastly, if you make another game, I’ll be thrilled; But if you don’t, rest assured that the way you’ve chosen to close this chapter is beautiful and perfect. Congradulations, man, one adventurer to another!

    -Joe

Hi, just finished your game on steam.

I had learned about it thanks to videos of independant games to come, and i saw the good ratings of journalists and youtubers that convinced me to get it.

I Just wanted to say thank you,
what a tale you have built !
it was packed with emotions, colourful characters with breathtaking visuals.
sad stories met with more lighted moments.
    The gameplay was very neat.

Just one thing is missing…i want to know the ending, i want to see merra, the island, i want to see this other part of the tale.

Hope to see it soon, i will be looking forward to it.

Where can I go to donate to the sequel?

I am currently writing this while whining tears from my eyes.

Only one other game has ever made me bawl like this. The incredible story partnered with such precise and intuitive controls is beyond all comparison. Frankly, this is now is my number 1 all time favorite game ever.

Every square inch of this game, every nook and cranny is full of detail and makes it impossible not to become immersed in the story that is being so skillfully told. Things were being introduced that seemed to be nothing at all, and slowly developed so well that when I experienced the exact same thing later in the game I would become choked up. For example, the songs in the game, while you can read them, and listen to them near the beginning, mean nearly nothing more than something silly or fun, but as the story progresses, and you are introduced to more lore, or meet certain people, these songs suddenly have meaning.

There were event sin the game that came up that I was genuinely heart broken, even scared and was afraid to continue forward, spending over an hour to prevent something from happening. I made nearly no progress during this hour, but I was desperate to find a way, to prevent what would be. Maybe I missed something, but I had to continue, I had to push and know.

I have never had a game make me question my own morals, one that put down horrible truths that I couldn’t avoid, that I had to push through, tears in my eyes as I progressed.

    Thank you SeithCG.
Thank you Lionel Gallat, Paul Gardner, Jerome Jacinto, Jeremiah Pena, Containher, and Nicolas Titeux.
Thank you everyone that worked on this masterpiece.
Thank you backers that made this possible.

THANK YOU THANK YOU TANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just finished the game and I physically miss the world you created already.

This is hands down one of my favorite games of all time.
the only thing that would have made this better is if this had been part of the Redwall universe (still not to late to make it canon)
I finished Ghost of a tale, and thought I’d play the Redwall game b/c I wanted more of this type of game and,… it paled so in comparison that I just started up Ghost of a tale again. Great storytelling, beautiful environments and at no point while I was playing the game did I *NOT* have a big stupid smile on my face.

    Once again.
    THANK YOU!

I will pledge to any further efforts to create a sequel and to continue this magnificent journey.

I originally gained the game through the paper mouse = digital mouse contest, but I just went and bought an additional copy at full price just because this game is too dang good not to fully support. I’ll send the extra copy to a friend of mine.
